The longer you wait the less it costs for instant access. So you can either work to get in (design a thing or watch the patch notes) or wait. Alpha is awesome, and well worth it, but all your stuff may get wiped before the beta starts, and you are 'testing' the game, so it's not a finished product. Depending on what tier you buy depends on how early you get access to the game.
